Starpulse: How are you guys liking Los Angeles?

Bill Kaulitz: Oh, it's great. I think the weather is actually really cool. In Germany, it's really cold right now, so it's good to be here.

I was in Germany a couple months ago and went to Berlin for five days and thought it was great.

BK: Oh, you liked it, yeah?

Absolutely. Are you guys from around there? Do you ever hang out in Berlin?

BK: No, most of the time we are in Hamburg; that's where we have most of our studios. So, yeah, we spend most of our time in Hamburg when we're in Germany.

I've been listening to the new album, "Humanoid," lately and like it a lot. It differs from your first English-version album, "Scream" - is that something you were doing on purpose, or did it just work out that way?

BK: You know, I think it just happened in the studio. The first English record was like a 'Best Of' from our first two German albums ["Schrei" (2005) and "Zimmer 483" (2007)] and we just translated everything. We weren't sure what the new album would be like, and originally we planned to do something new - something fresh. We decided to go to the studio for one year and we produced and wrote songs and wanted to be creative. The goal was to try things out. We have a lot of different versions from every song, and ["Humanoid"] is more electronic than the other records. There was nothing planned. It was just something different.

Was there a concept behind the album?

BK: No, not really a concept. It just happened in the studio. I think the most important thing is that we had time to produce and write. Maybe the record company hates us now because they expected the record half a year earlier. For us, it was more important to have the time. And like I said, we needed one year to produce this record. I think in the future it will also be like that, so we have enough time to produce and write.

Is that something the band prides itself on - not listening to exactly what the studio wants? It's just whatever comes naturally?

BK: Yeah, I think that's important, so we have no record company that is talking to us about our music - that is something we hate, when other people want to talk about that. I think it's important that you do your stuff and you like it. We don't think about other people. We just do our stuff, and when we're happy with that, we know it's going to be good.

Tom Kaulitz: I think if you love [the music], then other people can love it.

After looking at some fan sites, it sounds like Tokio Hotel loves performing and being on stage. What do you guys like about that so much?

BK: I think that it's something hot - like music and being on stage - that's why we do all of this. You know, I think the promotion stuff and photos shoots and interviews, that's just a part of it. But the most important thing for us is to really be on stage and to make music.

TK: The energy and the reaction of the fans, and having our own production and our own stage, and being on the road for months - that's what's great.

Bill, I like the look you have going on. Do you think Adam Lambert is trying to copy you?

BK: I don't know, I'm not sure. I haven't seen older pictures of him. [Haha]

Do you know who he is?

BK: Yeah, I know who he is. People have told me about that. We have that same show ["American Idol"] in Germany. I don't know how he looked before, so I don't know if he stole my look. Maybe he's just wearing makeup all the time like me. I started to wear makeup when I was - I think - 12 years old, so I don't know what his background is.

Do you have an inspiration behind the look?

BK: I really love vampires, so it started with a Halloween party and I went to it as a vampire. After that, I started wearing makeup and polish my nails and everything.

Are you excited for the new "Twilight" movie?

BK: Yeah. I saw the first one and it was really good. So I want to see the new one as well.

Have you ever heard of the TV show "True Blood"?

BK: Yeah, I heard about it, but I've never seen it. I think it's not out in Europe.

You should check it out.

BK: OK, cool.

My girlfriend is always telling me I need to use more hair product. Do you have any advice?

BK: [Haha] I just use one bottle of hairspray every day.

Wow. A full bottle?

BK: Yes, every day is a different kind. So I don't have like [a] company or anything [to recommend].

Will Tokio Hotel be touring in the U.S anytime soon?

BK: We hope so. We just scheduled our European tour, and so we'll be doing that for 2010 and it'll be huge. We go to a lot of countries, and we hope that after the European tour we come to the U.S We really want to.

Do you have a favorite place to perform in the U.S - a favorite city?

BK: I really like all of the huge cities, so I really love New York and L.A - and Chicago was great and San Francisco. I think all of the huge cities are incredible.

Do you guys have a few bands that you really loved when you were growing up, someone who has inspired your music?

BK: I think everyone listened to different music, and it's really hard for us to pick one band. For me, I've never had like one role model or something, but I listened to David Bowie and the Stereophonics. And at the moment, I really like Kings of Leon. They're really different and I really like their music.

Anything else going on with the new album release?

BK: No, I think we're just focusing on the tour now. And the record is working very well in every country, and we're really proud of it. Right now, it's a really important and exciting time for us because we've been working for such a long time on this record and put so much into it. We're proud that everyone likes it so much. Now we're focused on the life process and the tour.

What English-version album are you guys most proud of?

BK: That's really hard to say. I think we like all of our albums - they're all great - but at the moment I think we're really happy with the new one.

Congrats on the new album and good luck with the tour.

BK: OK, thank you very much

Everyone: Goodbye!

WORTH reading!

Only three years are enough to conquer the market of their country and gradually have joined fans worldwide that are folded unconditionally style. The most surprising is that they have become the phenomenon that nobody had heard of until now. They are Tokio Hotel, the German quartet which aims to tear down prejudices based on pure pop rock.

Not leading the rankings as the European and American hip-hop numbers, nor are they part of some community groups that have been catapulted to fame. No. But I have made a meteoric career, especially counting the age of each of its members: the twins Tom and Bill Kaulitz have only 18 years, reaching 19 Gustav Schäfer and Georg Listing, the highest, 21, and if we Since its debut in 2005, has sold more than five million copies of her three jobs, “Schrei”, “Zimmer 483″ and “Scream”-the latter, a compilation of his previous two albums, but translated into English, it is not surprising that have come strongly to the American market. So if you’ve never heard the name of this band, You better not lose track.

Despite his vocalist Bill Kaulitz comparisons strongly dislike him, for a unique and unparalleled, the roots of Tokio Hotel are in Green Day and Nena (German singer labeled under the new wave and pop); but also confess a particular closeness to the music of Fall Out Boy and Yellowcard. Also, within the same search for an unparalleled style, aesthetics Tokyo Hotel shows the personality and tastes of each of its members. Georg, the bassist, made clear his preference for the punk and pop artists like Billy Talent and Sum 41, Gustav, battery, is the heaviest of tastes, having among its favorite Metallica and System of a Down, Tom, guitarist, prefers hip hop and Bill includes a favorite Placebo, Coldplay and Nena.

Not for nothing did the eye-catching and different images of each of the boys, especially its frontman, causing much controversy even within his own fans, and burlesque, in the music press. But they do not give too much importance: they know that their fans identify with those diverse identities and do not try to hide … “Tokio Hotel is the only thing we have in common,” states Tom. The label Universal knew immediately, so that after the expiry of his contract with Sony BMG, the band changed its name to Tokio Hotel and Devilish prepared for the massive invasion.

But the story begins long before. The twins were involved in music since they were children, declaring his passionate love for her command of the guitar and voice and even tocatas performing in bars and clubs. “One night we played in a club called Groninger Bad where Georg and Gustav, which was known from school, we were watching from the public. Obviously we begged to be part of the band, so that way we got to play together,” Tom said about the beginnings of Tokio Hotel.

It will not take long since left behind the name Devilish to record his first album, “Schrei”, which immediately won the German public, consistent with the rapid departure of “Zimmer 483″. But neither of them would have expected a contingent of fans in the United States, which were forced to write in English a collection of songs from her two albums, entitled “Scream”, which was launched only a few months ago in North America.

The task was complicated, since none of the boys handled the language with perfection and strive to translate their lyrics literally terms Anglos not to lose a word of content they wanted to express. However, the heaviest task took Bill, since he was the only one who had to return to the studio to create these new versions.

“Our lyrics are very important to us and we want everyone to understand, said the singer.” When people from other countries began to listen to our music, we believe in making an English version of certain songs … I had to return to the studio, I wanted to play perfect, as a native speaker. I did not want someone who apparently was trying to sing in English. It took a while, but I’m happy with the outcome. ”
The reaction that has caused the market gringo was better than expected. “It’s very difficult to have fans in other countries, especially in the United States because it is such a place, so big, which is known to be complicated. We are thrilled merely having people who will follow us. In America, we see a fan and say : ‘we are so proud! We have a fan! “, said Bill. Actually, Tokio Hotel had a live appearance on TRL from Times Square in New York and filled the Roxy Theater in Hollywood, in its first show in the land of Uncle Sam.
“We return to Europe to start recording a new album and then we will do it in English. Later, we return to the United States for a tour,” said Tom. The specific response of some of his followers has not been discreet: band members say that a star christened with the name Tokio Hotel and even a girl designed a Mini Cooper with the multi-style group.

That’s why the Germans do not want to lose the opportunity to establish contact with people who passionately listening to his songs. With an exclusive channel on YouTube and his own MySpace site, state that “this is the way we connect with the world. We try to know and when we go to their countries, and played all our shows, we see them in person . But Bill makes it clear that “we do not have private accounts on MySpace, we found only in the official chats, so if anyone is going through us, you do not have.
But what is behind the music of Tokio Hotel? What attracts so many people, beyond appearances? The singer said that “what we want is that people feel we played with. I write about our lives and things that you experience or have become our friends. For us one of the most important things in life is to be free and do whatever we want, but avoid the rules. We’re trying to live our dreams and not give up, without expressing the views of the rest. ”

After all this outbreak of passionate fanaticism by the Germans, and many wonder if this is reduced to only a media phenomenon, industry or the era. The truth is that they do not want to know: are enjoying the best years of his life. “The only thing we do is show, being on stage and play as long as we can, I hope it is forever,” says Bill. It has always been our dream and I’m focused on making this a reality. ”
Right in the middle of their crazy tour of Europe, we had the opportunity to speak by telephone with vocalist Bill Kaulitz, who declared his unconditional fans briefly and told us some important details to better understand Tokio Hotel.

Well, first of all I would like to congratulate them for the tremendous success we have achieved world … You started making music at an early age. How were the comments from people close to you as your friends or your family, in terms of progress they have lived since his early days as a band so far?
“Well, family and friends support us a lot, they are all very happy for us. This is obviously not easy because we travel all the time and very little at home. We started very young, with 15 years to start our first Steps and the truth is that for all was a big change. ”

In adolescence is sometimes not very clear which way to go or how to define, but you seemed very confident at the time of that music was his lifestyle. How did they get to make that decision so crucial?
“Yes, it is true that we decided very early, but as we have progressed, we realized that the decision was correct. We do this as long as we can and be on stage … and the truth is that we have to thank our fans for everything. ”

Initially, the band called Devilish, what made them change their name to Tokio Hotel?
“What happened was that we needed a name that was appropriate to the four that make up the group and chose Tokyo because it is a great metropolis, a great city and we are all people who likes the city. And we wanted a symbol that was representative our home, that’s why we chose the hotel. ”

One aspect that causes most controversial Tokyo Hotel, even within the same fans, is the aesthetic of the band. Do you always planned to have an appealing appearance?
“Yes, when you look at the pictures of the group, it is clear that there are four different styles. We are like that. What is your personality is reflected in the image of the band, is not that we represent a role at all, but that what you see is what we are. ”

Few bands have achieved success in Germany at the global level, Rammstein is perhaps the last that we have witnessed. What are the models to follow music Tokio Hotel?
“Well, the truth is that we have no model, because from the beginning we wanted to follow our own style. We have not made any version of any band we have not planned ahead, because we are not interested, we are four people with four different styles different music. ”

“Scream”, the compilation contains a selection of songs from her first two albums, was his first recording in English. Since we have achieved tremendous success in the United States and their own fans sing songs in German, have you thought about how it will be their next release? You recorded in both languages?
“In reality we will continue as before, recording the album in two languages, German course because it is our native language and because I write the songs in German … my English, the truth is not very good. But anyway try to do what we have done so far, record the items and then translate them as was the case of “Scream.” And in the end, as has happened in the United States, all the fans end up singing in German. ”
We know roughly that the American public is very good. What is the deal every day with the fans? How have you reacted against this warm welcome?
“Dealing with the fans has been very good and so far we have not suffered any disappointment. In the United States have been there at the foot of the canyon, giving us strength and we have made some great shows. We love it, our connection with them is excellent. ”

In addition, Tokio Hotel has a channel on YouTube and MySpace on its own site, creating a much more direct relationship with the music and life of the band. Do you read the comments posted by fans or try not to get influenced by the views of the people?
“Yes, it is true, we are very Internet, check our e-mails, always from side to side, but we can read what fans write us, what interests them, is a useful tool to be as close as possible our supporters. We try to be updated so that all our supporters in all countries know what is happening with the band. We are very interested in what they think and what they want. We try wherever possible to fulfill their wishes, because it is true that everything we do is mainly due to them. ”
In Chile there is a growing body of fans of Tokio Hotel. How do you feel that in places as remote as it has people who listen to your music and your fans are declared?
“For us it is amazing to know that there are fans all over the world who listen to our music. Just three years we had our first hit in Germany and we seemed utterly incredible to reach this success. Now, to other countries and other continents is something that never would have counted. ”

Did you know?
The favorite activity of all members of the group, except Gustav is resting. Bill confesses that when you have days off all you trying to do is sleep late, like Tom and Georg. For their part, prefer to leave the drummer to ride and get together with friends.

The New York Post has posted an article featuring their favorite five new artists of 2008, and TH are on the list! Read the Tokio Hotel excerpt bellow.

«FIVE GOLDEN SINGS
Notebook's Favorite Newbies '08

Young girls have always loved a good boy band. But the days of matching outfits and coordinated dance moves are over, judging by the German pop-rock quartet's success this year.

Fronted by 19-year-old twin brothers, the chart-topping, multiplatinum "teenie" band - as they're known in their native land - invaded our shores in May with their US debut, "Scream." Which is pretty much exactly what Goth-lite teen girls (and their younger sisters) did nonstop at all four of their New York shows.

Whether due to the appeal of androgynous frontman Bill Kaulitz's porcupine-like hairdo or the band's politely rockin' tunes, they managed to snag the viewer-awarded best new artist title at this year's MTV Video Music Awards - beating out heavyweights like Katy Perry, Jordin Sparks, Taylor Swift and tween queen Miley Cyrus. Seriously.

Secret Plan

Now they change their sound

Two years ago, Tokio Hotel released their last CD. In spring 2009, the
new album will finally come. And everything about it should be different?

Finally, it’s here! In January 2007, Tokio Hotel released their last album "Zimmer 483." Since then fans have been waiting longingly for new music from the Magdeburger world stars. And finally it’s in the making. For weeks, Bill (19), Tom (19), Gustav (19), and Georg (21) have been in the studio in Lüneberg in order to work on the new CD. And this time everything should be different! "We’re trying so many new things?, Bill explains, "the motto of the new album is first of all ‘Reset’. That is, we’re leaving everything at zero. We have every possibility in regards to the music. If it’ll be of a hip hop- or a dance-influence, everything is possible." A further surprise: "We want to collaborate with many different artists. We could talk to so many people with success, but we don’t want to reveal anything concretely", Bill grins. "It can be that first we think they’re cool. And then we get to know them in the studio, and realize, “This absolutely will not work." Then whom could the boys have in mind? During their US-Tour, at all the big award shows, they got to know all the big stars like Miley Cyrus (16), the Jonas Brothers, and songwriter Ryan Tender. The boys have also eaten with the world stars Nicole Scherzinger (30) and Jay-Z (39). German stars like the friendly Jimi Blue Ochsenknecht (16) or Bushido (30 with whom TH celebrated their Comet award the entire night) could perhaps be rapping on the third album. "We are really picky", Georg gives away. There will also definitely be songs for fans of the old TH sound: "There will be something there for everyone!"

Captions:

The boys could collaborate with these artists:

Nena: Bill has dreamed of a duet with the Pop-Grandma since his childhood.

Jonas Brothers and Tokio Hotel would be a dream combo.

Jimi Blue is friends with Bill - will he rap on the new Tokio Hotel album?

Bushido celebrated with the boys at the Comet Awards in Oberhausen - are there joint songs?

Sarah Connor knows Tom & company from after show parties. Will something more happen soon?

Ryan Tedder has offered to write a song for TH.

Jay-Z visited a TH show in LA. Went afterwards to eat with the boys.

Nicole Scherzinger and Wilson Gonzalez would also certainly be hot on the new CD.

Miley Cyrus gambled with TH playing video games at the VMAs. She would naturally be a sensation in a duet with Bill.

Georg, Tom, Gustav, and Bill (from left) will return in 2009 with a new album. It should be released everywhere at the same time.

Teens line up to see German pop sensation - All Samantha Belbey wanted was a hug from the leader of her favorite band, Tokio Hotel.

“I really wanted to meet them,” said the 14-year-old, her eyes still wet after being told by a security guard that she could not hug Bill Kaulitz, the band’s popular lead singer.

Belbey of Riverhead, N.Y., joined hundreds of adoring fans Friday for an autograph signing with the band at the Hot Topic clothing store in the Freehold Raceway Mall.

Tokio Hotel — which is causing a minor sensation in this country after years of popularity in Germany — kicked off its U.S club tour Thursday with a sold-out performance at the Starland Ballroom in Sayreville.

The band members already are major stars in Germany, where they have sold close to 3 million CDs and DVDs and have earned themselves four No. 1 singles and two No. 1 albums. They recently released an album made up of tracks from their first two German albums, re-recorded in English.

In a nod to their gaining popularity in this country, the video for their single “Ready, Set, Go” was recently nominated for an MTV Video Music Award.

The rockers were greeted Friday by long lines of mainly teenaged girls decked out in a uniform of skin-tight jeans, studded belts and brightly dyed hair.

Ashley Ankudovich and Leyna Andren, both 16-year-old Stafford residents, were the first to arrive, just before 7 a.m., they said. The mall opens at 10 a.m

“They are the only (band) I want to ever meet,” Ankudovich gushed.

Both teens, like many others in the crowd, said they attended the band’s concert Thursday. But that wasn’t enough for many, apparently.

“Bill’s voice is, like, so good,” said Marissa Silverberg, 16, of Manalapan, referring to Tokio Hotel’s superskinny front man, Bill Kaulitz, who usually sports an electrified shock of black hair and enough eye shadow and eyeliner to make Motley Crue proud.

Silverberg went to the concert with John Pender, one of the few male fans at the signing. Silverberg and Pender were each wearing T-shirts emblazoned with the words “Tokio Hotel” as they waited in line.

The band’s music encourages listeners to be positive, said Pender, 16, of Manalapan.

“Whatever gets you down — there’s always something good in life to look forward to,” Pender said.

Nicole Chis, 14, and Joy Mo, 13, of Highland Park came prepared.

“Bill” and “Kaulitz” were written in black marker on Chis’ arms. And Mo came with a handmade sign that read “We Love Tokio Hotel” in German, using the colors of the German flag — yellow, red and black. On the back, she had recreated the German flag.

“We love Tokio Hotel. . . . Their music is really cool. It’s, like, really good,” Chis said.

“I’ve never liked anybody so much,” she added.

Zarina Montecinos, 14, likes the band so much that she and her sister came from Fredericksburg, Va., to attend the concert and the signing.

“I was, like, shocked,” Montecinos said, still trying to catch her breath after the bandmates signed a shirt for her.

“I just love the music,” Montecinos said.

Her favorite is Bill Kaulitz, whose twin brother, Tom, plays guitar for the band.

“I love his hair,” she said, referring to Bill Kaulitz. “He’s so cute.”

ITV Entertainment in the UK has a small article about Tokio Hotel in their “Music Pics of the Day”.

The gravity-defying, Sonic-style spikes belong to Bill Kaulitz of rising pop-rockers Tokio Hotel.

What you’ve never heard of them? Well, back-combing Bill here and his fellow ‘hoteliers’ halted traffic and created scenes of mass hysteria yesterday when they turned up for an MTV show in New York.

Germany’s answer to McFly (yes, really) have dominated the charts in their native land with catchy hits such as Schrei and Heilig. Having won over the hearts of eye-liner loving teens in The States, the four-piece now have their sights on the UK.

Expect hairspray sales to go through the roof.

Hard times for Tokio Hotel haters!

Tokio Hotel: Nomination for the Video Music Awards

Wow! Kaulitz & Co. are really taking off. Tokio Hotel are keeping the TRL phone lines busy and MTV dedicated a whole week of coverage to them, stopping traffic in New York’s Times Square to film the guys from Magdeburg there. It’s got to feel like a dream to Tokio Hotel.

To top this, the band has been nominated for a ‘Best Pop Video’ MTV Video Music Award with their song ‘Ready, Set, Go!’ (‘Übers Ende der Welt’). The awards show takes place on September 9th in Los Angeles, and Bill can hardly believe it:

“It’s so cool to be nominated. It’s something really, really special – it’s America and our first American award. This is great!”

It’s incredible what Tokio Hotel have accomplished lately, but they sure deserve their success. Congratulations!

Americans love our boys!
Tokio-Hotel-week at MTV USA

Americans are in a flap since the first concert of the German whizz kids Tokio Hotel on American ground – especially the females! The hysteria of the US-fans knows no borders like you can see in the chart-show “TRL” at MTV.

The New Yorker Time square is totally marked by Tokio Hotel since Monday, August 4th, 2008! The MTV-show is taped there – and the music-channel dedicates the German boys an entire fan-week. In the show are not only shown the videos and performances of the teenager-band, but also the boys are guests in the studio. Bill, Tom, Gustav and Georg account 60 minutes, moderate and give a live-concert.

One of the many topics: their VMA-nomination!

Tokio Hotel are nominated for the “MTV Video Music Award 2008” (September, 7th (the article said 9th, but it’s actually the 7th), Los Angeles) with their music-clip of the song “Ready, Set, Go!” (“Übers Ende der Welt”) in the category “Best Pop-Video”.
In the MTV-TRL-Interview Bill says about that: “It’s so cool for us to be nominated! It’s really, really something special – it’s America and it’s our first American award-nomination.. That’s great!”

It’s fact: America likes our four Magdeburger boys!

Scream-alarm, cuddly toys-throwing and some “Marry me”-placards cause Tokio Hotel-fever since Monday.

At the beginning of their abroad-journeys the boys performed at the famous open-air-festival: “Giants Stadium”. The boys have really gained a foothold in America!
